Wake up facing the mountains
Two restored farmhouses sit in Sperryville/Nethers, under a fifteen-minute walk from the Old Rag trailhead. Ten minutes’ drive from them, in Etlan, Old Rag Overlook stands 800 feet up on 32 acres, with the mountain filling the east-facing windows. All three sleep families and groups of friends, with hot tubs and fire pits outside, and wood stoves at Trailside and Foothills, and mountain views from nearly every room.

Under two hours from DC, under fifteen minutes from the trailhead
We are on the quiet eastern side of Shenandoah National Park, an hour and forty minutes from Washington DC and about an hour from Charlottesville. Old Rag is the reason most people come, and it needs a day-use ticket from March through November; we will tell you how to get one when you book. Nicholson Hollow is a fifteen-minute walk from Trailside and Foothills, and White Oak Canyon and its falls are a twenty-minute drive south.
If you are searching for a cabin near Old Rag, ours are restored farmhouses instead, with the same quiet but real kitchens, wood-burning stoves and room for ten. They are pet friendly too: up to three dogs are welcome. Sperryville’s restaurants, wineries and breweries are about fifteen minutes the other way, which is what turns a hiking trip into a weekend getaway.
